Ash Wednesday is a day to remind ourselves of our need for hearty repentance and of the fact that we are "dust" and to dust we shall return in death. We must tell ourselves and our hearers that no matter how beautiful or ugly, how well connected or disconnected, how wealthy or poor, how happy or sad, how healthy or unhealthy, how fit or unfit, we will one day face our mortality. On that fateful day our organs will fail and we will die and we will meet the Holy One of Israel whether we like it or not and whether we believed he exists or not. Finally, we will meet Him joyfully or fearfully! Are you ready for that day when you will encounter our Holy God? You can be ready by turning to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith as part of your preparation for that day of reckoning. He will forgive you and make you his child.

Let us pray : "Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."

I will be flying out from Nigeria to Germany tonight and God willing arrive safely in El Paso on Thursday night. Thank you for your prayers.

Have a holy and happy Lent!
